Introduction to Information Systems

What are the data?
They are concrete realities or discrete. (For example, an employee's name, the number of hours worked per week, the inventory number, employee number, etc..)

To represent these realities is possible to use multiple data types are:

Alphanumeric: Numbers and letters.
Image: Graphic Images.
Audio: Sound, sounds or tones.
VIDEO: Moving Images.
What is information?
It is a set of data organized so that they acquire additional value beyond self.
The type of information created depends on the defined relationships between existing data
Add new data or different means the possibility of redefining the relationships and create new information.

The process of transforming data into information
The conversion of data into information is a process or series of tasks logically linked and executed to produce a definite result. What is important is the degree to which are useful and valuable data.

Features valuable
Exacta: Accurate information is error.
Complete: Complete information is important data.
Economic: The production of information should be relatively inexpensive.
Flexible: Flexible information is useful for many purposes.
Reliable: Reliable information depends on many factors.
Relevant: Relevant information is really important for responsible decision making.
Simple. The information should be simple and not too complex.
Timely. Timely information is being received just when needed.
Verifiable. Information must be verifiable.
Accessible. The information should be easily accessible to authorized users.
Segura. The information must be protected against access to it from unauthorized users.
What is a system?
It is a set of elements and components that interact to accomplish a certain goal.

What is the modeling of a system?
It is an abstraction or approximation used to represent reality also allow us to examine real situations and gain a better understanding of the system.

What is an information system?
It is a set of interrelated elements or components to collect (input), manipulate (process) and disseminate (output) data and information and provide a feedback mechanism aimed at the attainment of a goal.

What are the elements of an information system?
The usual procedures and working practices.
Information.
Individuals or users.
The support team.
Examples of information systems
Manual and computerized systems.
Information systems based on computer SIBC.
Hardware.
Software.
Database.
Telecommunications and Internet networks.
People and procedures.
